James Brown Has His First Bag Installed

Nurse Wayums urges the Godfather Of Soul to hold very still while Doctor Billups installs the youngster's very first bag at the Get On Up General Hospital on July 16, 1932. Brown was remembered for being very brave at the time, and hospital staff recall getting a chuckle from his "Law ha' moicy" outburst as the procedure was completed. Brown would miraculously use this bag for the next 30 years, until excessive hip wear and gun possession forced him to have it replaced with a new polyester-blend bag in May of 1965. He celebrated the occasion by releasing his new single, "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag" later that year. It went on to become one of 1965's biggest hits on the soul charts, and Brown's new bag lasted him until his death in 2007.
