Food for the Hungry. As a photographer, I was asked to go to Ethiopia in March 2000 by Food for the Hungry, an established non profit NGO that has been involved in relief and development projects through out the country for over 15 years. My role was to produce images in an effort to help communicate the condition of the children and people in the areas affected by the drought emergency, unfolding across the country.

New Idria. The discovery of a rich cinnabar deposit near Santa Clara, California in1848 led to the opening of the New Almaden Quicksilver Mine, named after the world's largest quicksilver producer in Almaden, Spain. Soon after, a small team prospecting in the rugged mountains of the southern Diablo range about 80 miles south of Santa Clara discovered another rich cinnabar deposit and they quickly formed the New Idria Quicksilver Mining Company, which is named after the world's second largest quicksilver producer in Idrija, Slovenia. The small town of New Idria grew up around the mine to support the homes, business and milling for the New Idria mining operations. The mine and town closed in 1972 and has since become an abandoned ghost town. New Idria is State Historic Landmark # 324.

Outdoor Sleepers. One hundred photographs taken in Yokohama and Kawasaki, Japan, in 2004 and 2005.

Night Flight Photo Essay. Every evening, as many as 40,000 children in northern Uganda hike for miles from their rural villages to shelters in town. These so-called night commuters are hiding from the Lord’s Resistance Army, a radical, religious paramilitary group that seeks to swell its ranks by abducting children while they sleep. If caught, their next march will be as Uganda’s youngest soldiers.
